Special Considerations in the Surgical Management of Glaucoma

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the indications, preoperative management, intraoperative care and postoperative management of patients undergoing glaucoma filtering surgery, including trabeculectomy, glaucoma implants and laser cyclophotocoagulation

  • Recognize and manage postoperative glaucoma surgical complications

  • Recognize the role of mitomycin C and 5-fluorouracil in glaucoma filtering surgery as well as the risks and benefits

  • Discuss special management of patients with less common glaucomas, such as neovascular glaucoma and glaucoma associated with uveitis

  • Assess patients with cataract and glaucoma and identify surgical options in their management.
