A one-day symposium on contact lens and anterior eye management will be among
the highlights of the programme, which is launched today. Held on the opening
day of the conference, the symposium will help prepare UK delegates for the
introduction of therapeutic prescribing, with lectures on the detection,
differential diagnosis and management of anterior eye and contact lens
conditions.
The lecture programme also features special sessions on
orthokeratology,
myopia and practice management, plus a round-table discussion on contact lens
materials led by Professor Brien Holden.
This year’s keynote speakers are Professor Chris
Snyder, Professor Mark
Willcox and Dr Philip Morgan, and the Irving Fatt Memorial Lecture will be
delivered by Dr Inma Pérez-Gómez. Professor Ken Polse’s contribution to
contact lenses will be acknowledged with the award of the BCLA Medal.
New events outside the lecture halls should prove attractive to
delegates.
Six new clinical workshops will run during the conference, which also includes a
photographic and poster competition and, for the first time, a picture quiz.
Company presentations will be held in a new purpose-built lecture theatre within
the exhibition hall. Nearly 40 companies have already booked stands.
Trainee contact lens opticians and pre-registration optometrists preparing
for practical examinations can attend Saturday’s pre-exam workshop, featuring
an examination session with an examiner.
Each
evening, delegates can relax and enjoy social events in the conference hotel, including Saturday’s Gala Dinner on a ‘Fire and Ice’
theme.
Accompanying persons have their own programme of free daytime events.
