Course Description
For: Optometrists
Only
This
course will provide the optometrist with a complete overview of
optometric care for infants and young children using a
developmental approach. Through this course, optometrists
will understand how to prescribe for the child's development and
not just for learning. Several young children will be
present for portions of the course for participants to see actual
techniques demonstrated and applied and for hands-on practice.
The
course will provide a thorough background of developmental
milestones in infants and young children. This section will cover
milestones such as movement, primitive reflexes, speech and
language, socio-cognitive, ocular, and visuo-cognitive development.
Participants
will be taken through the examination sequence from preparing for
the exam, taking the history, to successfully communicating with
the young patient. The instructor will also cover the
testing protocols in both administration and assessment.
