ASRS Immediate Past-President
With the goal of satisfying more of the membership's needs, the ASRS Board of
Directors has given me permission to plan an additional ASRS meeting with a
smaller venue. The first annual "Masters of the ASRS" Meeting will be
held March 13-16, 2005 at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort in the Bahamas.
The meeting will be kept to half days to encourage afternoon bull sessions,
minimal foo-foo frills to keep the costs down, including a cash bar, on your own
dinner with friends, evening entertainment provided by the hotel's night club,
and no scheduled afternoon social events. You choose what you want to do and
with whom you want to do it. There will not be a rapid-fire presentation of
papers, perhaps a 6-minute paper and 4 minutes discussion for each paper. We
prefer interesting cases, complications, or a new way of doing something. The
papers should provide a springboard for discussion. Please leave the last 100
Kenalog injections for DME at home, but present the Kenalog injection you gave
under the retina. We are looking for quality interesting presentations, and
sorry, we will reject papers to keep the venue relaxed. We will likely not have
a poster session (which costs lots of bucks for floor space). Companies are
welcome and invited to present a 5-minute talk about their latest products prior
to the welcome cocktail party (CME doesn't allow them to present during the
formal sessions), but there will be no formal exhibits. If we keep the meeting
costs down, the registration fee can be reasonable and we will not have to rely
on the generosity of the companies to make the event possible (We do need their
support for the annual meeting and don't want to compete for those sacred
dollars.)
