US-Indo Workshop on Collaborative Research
Overview
The idea to bring together researchers from the US and India began in 2002
when individuals at ARVO gathered to discuss the research opportunities that
collaboration between the US and India could bring. The goal of these programs,
funded by a grant awarded in 2004 by the National Eye Institute, is the
development of a research plan for collaborative projects incorporating methods
for identifying fiscal, scientific (e.g. tissue, processes, population), and
intellectual resources in the US and India that promote collaboration and
identifying research areas where there is a need. The India workshop will be
conducted in the style of a catalyst meeting. There will be three-hour sessions
on five themes featuring overviews by topic leaders in each area with intensive
group discussion. The US workshop will build on follow-up discussions occurring
between the two workshops. From both these workshops a report will be developed
on US-Indo collaborative research opportunities and research models to utilize
the unique research resources that are available.
Topic
- There are five themes that will be presented and discussed at these
workshops:
- Molecular Genetics of Eye
Disease
- Clinical Aspects of Genetics of Eye
Disease
- Harmonization of Clinical Measurement Techniques and Terminology for
Targeted Diseases and Structures
- Identification, Development and Exchange of
Research Resources
- Translational
Physiology: Bench to Bedside Applications.
The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology
(ARVO) is
accepting applications from members who are citizens of the United
States or India to participate in this two-event program. Participants
must be able to attend both workshops.
