Description: A macular hole is a tear or a defect of the foveal retina involving its full-thickness from the internal limiting membrane to the outer segment of the photoreceptor layer. Until recently, it was thought to be an infrequent ocular condition that was invariably untreatable (eMedicine; Macular Hole).

Description: A macular hole is an opening involving the fovea in the center of the macula that results in significant loss of central vision (Vitreo-Retinal Consultants; Macular Hole).
